Proclamation

Today we had my wife’s family over, to include her grandparents on her dad’s side. We cleaned the house and cooked all the food, all in the preparation of proclaiming the good news that a child will be born. (Sorry it’s Christmas time) We had some issues getting the squash to render down, so while waiting for it to cook a while longer, we gave the grandparents their early Christmas gift. They unwrapped it to find a picture frame that says “Only the best grandparents have the right to be called great grandparents.” It also had a picture of my wife’s first ultrasound. They were elated of course. Hugs all around. Although I could kind of tell that her grandmother was reserving a bit of happiness. It’s no secret that my wife and I are not really part of the “in” crowd with the rest of the family. We hardly ever talk to any of them, yet it seems like they all(uncles, aunts and cousins) talk to each other on a very, very regular basis. So I do feel like I could see that reservation on her face, because I’m sure she was hoping that this news would come from any of the other cousins, who she and the rest of the family feel are closer.

That said, she did tell us a story about how she was asked one day which of the cousins she thought would be the first to get pregnant and she said my wife. so who knows.

The meal turned out well. I made a German dish called Geschnetzeltes or Pork with a creamy mushroom sauce. We were worried her family may not like it but, they ended up really enjoying it. I really like it. I may make it a staple actually. If you want to see what I made here is the recipe:

Well it won’t let me post the site I got it from… But if you search for a website called “German Culture” and then search for “Geschnetzeltes” on there you should be able to find it eventually.

Still procrastinating hardcore on this paper.

I’m finally feeling a ton better after getting my stent removed. That thing was not fun and I am only just now realizing that the majority of my pain after the surgery was caused by it. Still don’t know what’s happening next.

Something I want to remember from today:

Grandparents were happy to hear our news. My wife and I got into a fairly large argument before the meal, but we got over it. Had a wonderful afternoon sharing laughs and spending time with her family. It was unusually warm today, and is supposed to be tomorrow as well. Got my red dot sight for my AR-556 pistol. Super excited to get that thing into action.
